Davis Controls offers an infinite range of Magnetic Level Gauge (MLG) configurations, with optional magnetostrictive or reed switch level transmitters with Fieldbus communication or 4-20 mA outputs for proportional system control. We also offer optional single-point level detection for high, low, and intermediate alarm points. Our MLGs and transmitters are custom fabricated to your vessels’ requirements and shipped in a timely manner with Canadian Approvals.

An MLG operates based on a simple yet effective principle. Here’s how it works:

1. Fluid Connection:
   • The MLG is attached to a vessel (such as a tank or container) filled with fluid.
   • The MLG shares the same fluid and level as the vessel itself.
2. Float with Magnet Assembly:
   • Inside the MLG chamber, there’s a float equipped with a magnet assembly.
   • This float assembly is buoyant on the surface of the fluid.
3. Level Changes:
   • As the fluid level rises or falls, the float moves accordingly.
   • When the float moves up or down, the magnet assembly inside rotates the external bi-colour flag assemblies.
4. Bi-Colour Magnetic Flags:
   • Outside the MLG chamber, there are bi-colour magnetic flags.
   • These flags change colour as the magnet assembly rotates due to the float’s movement and magnetic influence.
5. Visual Readings:
   • The contrasting coloured flags are easy to see, even from a distance.
   • The standard colour combination is White & Red. Red is the representation of the liquid level.
6. Maintenance-Free and No Power Required:
   • Since the MLG relies on the interaction between magnets, it doesn’t need an external power source.
   • It is virtually maintenance-free
7. Optional Accessories:
   • The MLG’s magnetic force can also affect optional switches or transmitters mounted outside the chamber.
   • Scales can also be added to the side fo the flag assembly to show reading in a variety of forms (e.g. feet & inches, centimetres, 0-100%, gallons, litres, etc.)
